My Speech In Special Education - 1015 Words

During my speech, I experienced a lot of issues and failures that I did not have while I was practicing. The subject of special education is very dear to my heart, not only do I want to be a special education teacher but I was in a special education class for a year due to a medical issue in elementary school. I spent a long time researching my subject and learning about the education system for this project. I even called the education board for Jackson County to learn about their curriculum. I made my speech and power-point and practiced my speech in front of different people, multiple times. After practicing I asked what I should improve on and I changed my speech to what was suggested I truly believed that I was prepared for this†¦show more content†¦This caused my points to not be as strong and the problem did not seem as something of importance. At the end of my speech I got a little confidence because I finally saw that I was almost done. The conclusion was strong and clear, I believe I got the action part of the Monroe style correct. At the end of my speech, I was told that I went over the time limit. I almost did not believe that because I was trying so hard during the speech to go as fast as I could to get it over with. I think I did not reach the time limit because I got frazzled and scared, causing me to draw out my statements and not keep an even flow for my speech. I also think that my note cards hindered me; which had been an issue in past speeches. I used them more as a crutch instead of an aid. I kept my cards very close to me and I read directly from them. I also learned at the end that what I thought was strong support only made sense to me. I received feedback saying that people understood my point but did not see the need for change. Another saying that they understood everything but simply did not want to volunteer or donate because they are a â€Å"broke college student with no time†. It wasn’t all bad though, I had a classmate come up to me who had a sibling in the special education program. She told me that she loved my speech and thought that I was extremely respectful to individuals with disabilities.
